In 2009, tet oncogene 1 (TET1) was identified as a potential candidate effector of DNA demethylation. TET1 is believed to mediate the oxidative demethylation of 5-methylcytosine by creating a 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) intermediate. TET1 was originally identified as a translocation associated with acute myeloid leukemia. Mutations to TET1 have been associated with various malignancies and developmental disorders. TET1 has also recently been implicated in the maintenance of pluripotency in embryonic stem cells due to its role in the demethylation of promoters for pluripotency-associated genes.
Antibodies to TET1 will play a vital role in the further characterization of TET1 and its role in modulating gene expression. The release of GeneTex's new TET1 antibodies is part of a continued commitment to providing the research community with high quality reagents for advancing discovery.
